Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 35 (Incarnation as Sri Rama - II)

INCARNATION AS SRI RAMA

Finally, Hanuman located Sita in one of the gardens of Ravana, called Ashoka grove (Vana). She was surrounded by the Rakshashis who were guarding her. Hanuman hid on a tree and watched Sita from a distance. She was in deep distress, crying and praying to God for her relief.

Sita is held captive in the island as Ravana tries to persuade her to marry him. Rama assembles an army of allies comprising mainly of monkeys under the brave Hanuman. They attack Ravana’s army, and after a fierce battle, succeed in killing the demon king and freeing Sita, reuniting her with Rama

After fourteen years, Rama and Sita return to Ayodhya and are warmly welcomed back by the citizens of the kingdom, where they rule for many years, and have two sons – Luv and Kush. Unfortunately, Sita’s chastity during her period of capture by Ravana comes under scrutiny, and she has to go through trial by fire to prove her purity. But queen, who emerged from the earth at her birth, invokes Mother Earth to take her back into the earth, and the saintly Sita returns to her Mother, never to reappear again.

41 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 41)

TO BE IN SATSANG

The divine mother, Abhirami, with eyes like just blossomed Lily flower, associated with red complexioned husband Shiva, has come to this world, with a view to blessing us, made our presence in the midst of devotees. It is due to our previous good deeds that both Abhirami and Lord Shiva has blessed us by placing their sacred feet on our heads.

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 34 (Incarnation as Sri Rama - I)

INCARNATION AS SRI RAMA

Ramayana is one of the most read and famous epics of all times. Maharshi Valmiki wrote the Ramayana epic. Dasharatha was the king of Kosala, an ancient kingdom that was located in present day Uttar Pradesh. Ayodhya was its capital. Dasharatha was loved by one and all. His subjects were happy and his kingdom was prosperous. Even though Dasharatha had everything that he desired, he was very sad at heart; he had no children. Dasharatha was advised by his family priest Vashishtha to perform a fire sacrifice ceremony to seek the blessings of God for children. Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, decided to manifest himself as the eldest son of Dasharatha in order to kill Ravana.

40 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 40)

TO YIELD MERITORIOUS DEEDS OF PAST BIRTHS

Vaal-nudhal kanniyai, vinnavar yaavarum vandhu irainsip
penudharku enniya emberumaattiyai, pedhai nensil
kaanudharku anniyal allaadha kanniyai, kaanum-anbu
poonudharku enniya ennam anro, mun sey punniyame!

Abhirami has eyes on her effulgent forehead. She is excellent and worshipped and praised by gods and other heavenly beings. Goddess Abhirami can not be fixed in their minds by those who are spiritually ignorant, She is always a lass. Due to the good deeds, I have done in the previous births and their cumulative benefits, I just seek asylum unto her and worship her.

Benefits of doing Shivopasana

It is stated that if a person died within an easily walkable distance of a Shiva Temple, he or she would receive ‘Punya’ of performing Chandrayana Vrataas again and again. If a person died at any of the Punya Kshetras like Varanasi, Prayaga, Kedara, Kurukshetra, Prabhasa, Pushkara, Amareshwara and so on, that person would be qualified for Shiva Loka Prapti.

Mere ‘darshana’ of such Sacred Tirthas is of considerable value, but ‘sparshana’ or touch and fondling of a Shiva Linga is hundred times better; Abhisheka of Shiva Lingas with water is hundred times better; Abhisheka with milk is thousand times better; far better is the Abhisheka with curds; with Madhu or honey it is regarded as better still and even better would be the Abhisheka by ghee.

Like wise, Snaana or bathing from a well, or a Sarovara, a river by taking the Panchaakshatri Mantra viz. ‘Om Namah Shivaaya’ would nullify a ‘Brahmahatya dosha’ or one of the Maha Patakaas or the Five Great Sins. Pratahkaala Darshana of Shiva Linga provides ‘Uttama Gati’ or Celestial Travel while the Evening Darshan bestows Yajna Phala.

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 33 (The Ambarish Episode)

THE AMBARISH EPISODE

King Ambarish And Sage Durvasa

Once Naabhaag's son Ambareesh.  was doing an Ekaadashee Vrat. For twelve months they had fasted on every ekadashi, not even drinking water. Their fast would end on Kartik sud 12. On the morning of the twelfth, Sage Durvasa and one hundred of his disciples arrived at King Ambarish's palace. Ambarish was overjoyed. He fell at their feet and welcomed them. He said, ''Today my ekadashi fast ends, and on this day you have also graced my palace. Indeed, I am very fortunate! Please dine here today.'' Durvasa replied, ''We'll first go to the river for a bath and then return.''

39 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 39)

GET STRENGTH TO HANDLE TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

Aalugaikku, un_dhan adiththaamaraigal undu; andhaganbaal

moolugaikku, en kurai, nin kuraiye anru;-muppurangal!
maalugaikku, ambu thoduththa villaan, pangil vaanudhale!

Abhirami! You are the mother God with bright forehead and face and you are present on the left side of our Lord Shiva!. Shiva to demolish the three fortified symbolic walls of ego, lust, and illusion, had fixed his arrow to his bow made out of Meru hills. Your Lotus-feet is there to accept me as your devotee. A slight glance by you from the far end of your eye at me is enough to relieve me form the clutches of Yama of death. If I endeavour to worship you , I would get tremendous benefits. If I am not inclined to worship you, same is my fault and not yours.

Dying an Easy Death

Mahamrutyunjaya Mantra

Meaning:
Om, We Worship the Three-Eyed One (Lord Shiva), Who is Fragrant (Spiritual Essence) and Who Nourishes all beings.

May He severe our Bondage of Samsara (Worldly Life), like a Cucumber (severed from the bondage of its Creeper), ... and thus Liberate us from the Fear of Death, by making us realize that we are never separated from our Immortal Nature.

Vedas - The Oldest Language in the World

The documented experience with Kanchi Sri Mahaswamigal, translated from Thiruvannamalai Sri Gowrishankar's interview (video at the end of this post).

"When I went to the Kanchi Mutt to have the darshan of Sri Maha Periyava, there were four foreigners there, an Israeli, an Italian, a German and a British. They had come to do their PhD in Philology on the topic of 'the most ancient languages in the Occidental and the Oriental world'. They were studying Latin, Hebrew and Greek languages in the Occidental part and Sanskrit and Tamil in the Oriental part.

Maha Periyava was in his private quarters, performing His Nithya Karma Anushtanas and elaborate poojas; they had waited and desired to take a photo of Him but His kaingaryams refused permission. They were heartbroken that they could not take a picture. All the four of them were standing near a tree since morning waiting for Periyava to finish his poojas and give darshan. They asked His sevakas when He would be done with the poojas but got an unconvincing reply.

Vedanta and Idol Worship

A pseudo-Vedantin feels himself ashamed to bow or prostrate before an idol in the temple. He feels that his Advaita will evaporate if he prostrates. Study the lives of the reputed Tamil saints, Appar, Sundarar, Sambandhar, etc. They had the highest Advaitic realisation. They saw Lord Siva everywhere and yet they visited all temples of Siva, prostrated before the idol and sang hymns, which are on record now. The sixty-three Nayanar saints practised Chariyai and Kriyai only and attained God-realisation thereby. They swept the floor of the temple, collected flowers, made garlands for the Lord and put on lights in the temple. They were illiterate, but attained the highest realisation. They were practical Yogis and their hearts were saturated with pure devotion. They were an embodiment of Karma Yoga. All practised the Yoga of Synthesis. The idol in the temple was all Chaitanya or consciousness for them. It was not a mere block of stone.

Madhusudana Swami, who had Advaita realisation, who beheld oneness of the Self, who had Advaitic Bhava, was intensely attached to the form of Lord Krishna with flute in His hands.

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 32 (The Fish Incarnation)

THE FISH INCARNATION

Very long ago, Long ago during the Pralaya which took place at the end of the sixth Manvantara, when Brahmaa was about to sleep, the great Asura Hayagreeva stole the Vedas from his mouth. In order to restore them, Thou decided to incarnate as a fish.

According to the Matsya Purana, the king of pre-ancient Dravida and a devotee of Lord Vishnu, Satyavrata who later becomes known as Manu who was doing penance subsisting on water alone, making the ritual offering of water of God. when a little fish swam into his hands and pleaded with him to save its life As satyavrata scooped water from the flowing river, he espied a tiny fish in the water he had scooped. When he tried to put it back into the river, the Fish entered the sage not to do so as it would be eaten up by the big fishes in the river. Satyavrata took pity and took it into his Kamandalam and went back to his hermitage. Overnight, the Fish grew too big to be in the Kamandalam.

38 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 38)

TO FULFILL WISH AS DESIRED

Pavalak kodiyil pazhuththa sevvaayum, panimuruval
thavalath thiru nagaiyum thunaiyaa, engal sangaranaith
thuvalap porudhu, thudiyidai saaykkum thunai mulaiyaal-
avalaip panimin kandeer, amaraavadhi aalugaikke.

My holy mother Abhirami's sacred lips are coral red in colour. Her face is cool and calm with pearl-white teeth and smile. She affectionately disturbs Lord Shiva's meditation. Her divine and slender waist tilts due to her weighty and sacred bosoms. If you surrender unto her, the kingdom of gods, the heaven would be yours.
