Understanding that the rituals described in the Vedas are beyond their seeming results-oriented nature, I shall dedicate all such rituals that I perform, to Thee O Lord! And become free from the bondage of action. May I not, even by mistake, by thought deed or speech attempt to do what is forbidden by the Vedas. If any such action becomes unavoidable, that too I will dedicate to Thee alone, O The Glowing Light of Consciousness!

98 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 98)

GET SHIELDED FROM THE DEEDS OF BETRAYERS

Thaivandhu nin adith thaamarai soodiya sangararku
kaivandha theeyum, thalai vandha aarum, kalandhadhu enge?-
mey vandha nensin allaal orugaalum viragar thangal
poyvandha nensil, pugal ariyaa madap poong kuyile!

Abhirami! You enter the minds of the faithful only and it can never enter the minds of the wicked full of deception; you are youthful and like a young cuckoo; where have the fire held by Sankara and the Ganges residing in the locks of Siva gone when he adorned his head with your lotus feets after caressing them with love.

O Lord Krishna! I believe that the worship of Thy feet is the most fear expelling and the only refuge for those mortals who are suffering because of being deeply bound by the false material notions and wrong acceptance of ephemeral values as true. By devotion to Thee all fear is expelled, in every way, the methods of which are taught by Thee (in Bhagvad Geeta etc.). O Lord of Lords! O Soul of all Beings! A person who is steady in Thy devotion will not slip or falter even a wee bit even if he runs on the path of delusion with his eyes closed.

Sage Thirumoolar

The primary source of biographical details on Thirumoolar is the Tamil work known as Periya Puranam, authored by Sekkilar. Periya Puranam is a work which gives the life stories of all the sixty-three saints (Nayanmars) of Saivism. Though Thirumoolar is a Siddha, he is popularly known as a Saiva saint of the Siddhanta tradition and hence his biography is included in Periya Puranam. The other sources are Nambiyandar Nambi’s Thirutthondar Thiruvandhadi, Umapathy Sivacharyar’s Thirutthondar Purana Saram, Swaminatha Thambiran’s Thiruvavaduturai Puranam, Dandapani Swamigal’s Pulavar Puranam and Agasthyar Vaidhya Rathina Churukkam-300. We may also find some accounts in A.Chidambaranar’s article on Thirumoolar’s biography.

Chitra Pournami

Chitra Pournami is observed on the Purnima day (full moon day) in the Tamil month of Chithirai (April–May). Chitra Pournami ritual commemorates Chitragupta, who according to the scriptures is the assistant of Lord Yama, the God of Death. The day is also dedicated to Indra, the head of Devas. It is on this day that the star Chitra and full moon come together.

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 89 (Slaying of Vrkasura)

SLAYING OF VRKASURA

Lord Brahma, Lord Visnu, Lord Siva and others are able to curse or bless one. Lord Siva and Lord Brahma are very quick to curse or bestow benedictions, my dear King, but the infallible Supreme Lord is not. n this connection, an ancient historical account is related concerning how the Lord of Kailasa Mountain was put into danger by offering a choice of benedictions to the demon Vrka. The demon named Vrka, a son of Sakuni's, once met Narada on the road. The wicked fellow asked him which of the three chief gods could be pleased most quickly. Narada told him: Worship Lord Siva and you will soon achieve success. He quickly becomes pleased by seeing his worshiper's slightest good qualities -- and quickly angered by seeing his slightest fault. He became pleased with ten-headed Ravana, and also with Bana, when they each chanted his glories, like bards in a royal court. Lord Siva then bestowed unprecedented power upon each of them, but in both cases he was consequently beset with great difficulty. Thus advised, the demon proceeded to worship Lord Siva at Kedaranatha by taking pieces of flesh from his own body and offering them as oblations into the sacred fire, which is Lord Siva's mouth.

95 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 95)

TO SURRENDER UNTO ABHIRAMI'S FEET

Nanre varuginum, theedhe vilaiginum, naan arivadhu
onreyum illai; unakke param: enakku ulla ellaam
anre unadhu enru aliththu vitten:- azhiyaadha kunak
kunre, arutkadale; imavaan perra komalame!

Abhirami! You are of great character as solid as a rock; also you are grace personified; you are the child of Himavan the king of Himalayas; I have entrusted all my belongings unto you; henceforth whether it is luck or misfortune, I have nothing to sense them; I have made myself your burden.

Narayaneeyam - Dasakam: 88 (Santanagopala)

SANTANAGOPALA

As per request of his mother Devaki, Lord Krishna brought back from the Suthala world a ll his dead siblings and later gave them salvation. He also helped Arjuna to keep up his promise of saving from death an expected child of a Brahmin , by taking him to Vaikunta.Hearing the news that you had brought back alive the dead sons of your teacher,Devaki , your mother, who earlier itself wanted to see her six dead children ,And on her request you brought those six sons who were earlier sons of Mareechi,And later due to the curse of Brahma were reborn as sons of Hiranyakasipu,From the land of Suthala by approaching Mahabali, who gave them to you,And after showing them to your mother sent them back to your own place.Once desirous of giving blessing to your great devotees,Sruthadeva who was a very famous learned Brahmin,And king Nahulaswa another of your greatest devotees, You went along with great many sages to the town of Mithila. With the desire to bless both the great well known Brahmana Shrutadeva and the deeply devoted king Bahulaashwa, Thou went to Mithilaa along with many ascetics. You took two different forms and reached, Both their houses simultaneously, And while one worshipped you in a very grand manner, The other offered and worshipped you the food and vegetables, which he managed to get as alms on that day, but you, We are pleased with both of them and gave salvation to both.

94 (Abhirami Andhadhi - Verse 94)

TO ATTAIN MENTAL PURITY

Virumbith thozhum adiyaar vizhinneer malgi, mey pulagam
arumbith thadhumbiya aanandham aagi, arivu izhandhu
karumbin kaliththu, mozhi thadumaari, mun sonna ellaam
tharum piththar aavar enraal abiraami samayam nanre.

Devotees who worship Abhirami, cry like anything, develop goose bumps, overflow with ecstasy, show signs of eroding wisdom, enjoy like wasp, words faltering and give the appearance of a psycho. Hence the religion of Abhirami that showers all the happiness like above is the supreme way of life.
